About Me

Hi, I’m Emma Carter.

By day, I work as a Commercial Finance Manager based just outside London. For the past 15 years, my corporate career has been built on analysing numbers, auditing business models, and using data to solve complex commercial problems.

I spend my hybrid work week helping teams make smarter financial decisions and assessing whether corporate investments are actually worth the money.

Left By The Ship exists because I wanted to bring that exact same rigorous, analytical approach to the chaotic world of online business opportunities and digital tools. I genuinely enjoy solving financial and operational problems at work—and building websites, testing software, and diving into AI applications scratches that exact same itch in my spare time.

From Corporate Finance to Digital Experiments

What started as a curiosity about how digital businesses operate gradually evolved into an evening and weekend obsession. Over the years, I’ve built niche websites, read countless business frameworks, and experimented heavily with emerging AI tools.

More recently, I’ve put those skills to the test by building a side income stream through a local lead generation business right here in the UK. I build location-specific websites for small, local businesses, driving them customers using a mix of Google Ads and organic SEO.

Along the way, I’ve purchased more software subscriptions, tracking tools, and digital courses than I’d care to admit. Some genuinely transformed my workflows and helped me scale my local sites. Others promised the world, charged a premium, and delivered next to nothing.

Because of my background, I naturally started writing deep-dive spreadsheets and analytical notes before making any purchasing decision. Realising those notes could save others time and money, I decided to publish them here.

My Review Standard & Commitment to You

This isn’t your typical “I hate my 9-to-5” blog. I worked incredibly hard to get to where I am, and I am deeply proud of my corporate finance career.

Because I genuinely enjoy my day job and don’t rely on Left By The Ship to pay the bills, I have the luxury of absolute honesty. I treat my lead generation sites and this blog as an independent commercial lab—a place to test strategies, see what actually generates a return on investment, and look at opportunities through a cold, commercial lens.

Because of that, my reviews follow strict personal standards:

  • Hands-On Analysis: I don’t just summarise sales pages. I sign up and test the software firsthand whenever it is feasible and secure. However, the online business space has its share of outright scams. If a scheme flags major security risks or demands sensitive personal data under shady circumstances, I won’t put my data (or yours) at risk. Instead, I’ll pull back the curtain using forensic research, domain histories, and community cross-examinations to show you exactly why you should steer clear.

  • Plain English: No marketing hype. I translate tech jargon into clear insights—what a tool excels at, where it falls short, and who it’s truly built for.

  • Unbiased Objectivity: While this site uses affiliate links to offset hosting costs, my reviews cannot be bought. I will only ever recommend the exact frameworks, software, and training programmes that I actually use to run my own websites and campaigns. If a business model is flawed or a piece of software is overpriced, I will say so plainly.

If one of my breakdowns saves you from a bad investment, cuts through the AI hype, or helps you find the exact tool you need for your business, then Left By The Ship has done its job.
